Bangor ME should be on the list of places that every traveler visits. The small town charm and attractions make this a great day trip or a stop on a roadtrip.

The Central Maine Antique Mall is a treasure trove for antiques and intriguing collectibles. There are also several museums in town that showcase the city’s beautiful cultural past.

Paul Bunyan

In addition to a picturesque waterfront and great craft beer, Bangor is known as the birthplace of Paul Bunyan. Paul Bunyan is an American folklore icon, known for his tall stories and superhuman feats. He is usually accompanied by his beloved ox, Babe the Blue Ox.

The hulking woodsman of Bangor stands out among the many Paul Bunyan Statues that are scattered throughout America. Its sculptor favored a more detailed and jolly portrayal of the legend. Over the years, the statue has worn a giant bandana and a fez for a Shriners Convention. Locals and tourists alike love to take pictures with this statue.

The Duck of Justice

A stuffed duck named The Duck of Justice is making a name for itself on the Bangor Police Department’s Facebook page. The duck has become a hit and is visited by people from all over the world. The duck mascot reminds police officers that they have a good sense of humor, and can bring a smile to a serious job.

The Facebook detective has retired. Tim Cotton, aged 59, is pursuing a career as a writer while he continues to post about the duck. He hopes that his efforts are a modernized version of what reporters at the Bangor Daily News did decades ago in their Night Police Beat column.

2 Feet Brewing

When you spend hours- or days-touring a city, it can be nice to stop in and have a beer and snack. At 2 Feet Brewing, you’ll find a wide selection of savory American pub fare to enjoy with your favorite drink.

The signature brew is the Barn Burner, a dark saison that’s flavored with roasted jalapeno and ghost pepper. This is the only beer available in cans, but you’ll also find a rotating list of craft concoctions made by Corey.

The small business is also supported by the family-run brewery. Corey and Nit-Noi source their ingredients from local farmers and vendors. They also have a goal to donate as much money as they can to various charities.

Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream

Gifford’s is a place where five retail ice-cream stands are operated by members of the fifth generation. The ice cream stands offer 100 different flavors of ice-cream, frozen yogurts, and sherbets. They make a lot of ice cream flavors, including Blueberry-Rhubarb Pie.

Maine Discovery Museum

There’s a reason why this place is among the most popular attractions in Bangor. It’s all about fun and creativity. The museum is known for its exhibits that encourage a sense of wonder and challenge children to learn in innovative ways.

The Eastern Maine Children’s Museum was established in 1997. It opened its doors in February 2001, in the former Freese’s Department Store in downtown Bangor. The museum is now the largest children’s museum north of Boston in New England.

In 2012, in support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s fight against childhood obesity, the museum was designated as a Let’s Move! institution. In addition to its exhibits, the museum also offers a variety of hands-on activities.
