Care and Maintainance of Stone and Slate Floors
Stone and slate floors can become ingrained with dust and dirt unless sealed. The problem is how to keep them looking natural…
Penetrating finishes, rather than surface coatings, tend to look better on rustic stone and slate so here are a few options for you to try.
- Stone Floor Sealer dries below the surface to produce a matt finish on slate, usually after only a couple of applications.
More porous materials will need extra applications making sure there is sufficient drying time between each one. Brush the sealer onto the surface and wipe off all of the excess so that no bright spots are created.
- For a higher shine or to speed up the process, use Liberon Finishing Oil either on top of, or instead of, the Stone Floor Sealer.
- For a gloss shine apply Stone Floor Sealer until the surface is sealed and then apply Stone Floor Shine.
- And finally, if you want a quicker finish than oil based seals can provide, and don't want to alter the colour of the stone or slate too much, dilute Finney's Matt Trade Acrylic Varnish with water so that it penetrates deeper before applying one or two even coats. Simple.
