Protecting against shrinkageWood shrinks as it dries, leaving noticeable white edges when the wood is stained after assembly.Sand each piece before assembly and then stain. If individual components such as a frame have to be glued up before staining, try staining the panels only prior to assembly. After staining, apply an initial coat or two of seal such as FINPOL Easy Polish to protect the colour during gluing. When using PVA adhesive, wipe off any glue marks with a damp cloth. Any faint marks that occur on the stained and sealed surface as the glue dries will disappear as subsequent coats of polish are applied.
