Creating Pastel ShadesPastel shades brighten up a room but if you use paints the natural grain pattern of the wood is lost forever. Here's how to create a translucent pastel shade on beautiful wood. After sanding the wood, the surface is washed in warm water to remove the dust and left to dry. Light re-sand is done before applying Finney's Pastel Blue or Pastel Green Professional Water Stain. Different shades can be created by diluting Finney's Professional Bright Water Stains with water in a ratio of around 7 to 8 parts water to 1 part stain. The stain is fixed with a single coat of Finney’s Transparent Fixative or FINPOL Easy Polish. Finally seal the surface with Finney’s Trade Acrylic Varnish as this does not significantly alter colour over time, keeping the pastel shade in original condition.
