Making new pine look oldUsing caustic soda, which is a dangerous chemical and can burn the skin.A much safer method is to apply a coat of Finney's Old Stripped Pine Professional Water Stain which resembles caustic dipping. It is worth gently distressing the wood (paying particular attention to edges) to form signs of wear before applying the stain. The greyish undertone produced is next waxed with either Fiddes Stripped Pine Supreme Wax for an old pine look, or with Fiddes Rugger Brown Supreme Wax for an aged dark pine. The wax should be applied using a pad of Ultra Fine 0000 grade Steel Wool before buffing. A Drill Brush or Furniture Brush will increase the shine produced.
